Poetry

Words have always been my first love.

When I was two, I brought a book to my mother and demanded that she teach me to read. Aged three, librarians were my heroes. I thought they read books all day and recommended which books to buy to others which sounded like the best job in the world. I aspired to be one, that is, until my writing skills developed, and I discovered it was just as fun to create stories and poems as it was to read them. I wanted to be the author who was writing books to buy.

Throughout my teens I won a few competitions. My poems were published in two different National Poetry anthologies in 2007 and I had a poem featured in a book entitled Future Voices of Cardiff when I was twelve. Over the course of a successful career that has spanned ten years and counting I have always been a content writer , I have written every kind of text for print and digital mediums. My words have whisked people to distant dreamy places, made them excited about new rides at major UK attractions, explained the mysteries and technicalities of the aviation industry and brought colleagues together across land and sea.

But the best words come from the heart and my focus has returned to what I do best. In 2020 I came runner-up in the Love the Words competition for Dylan Thomas Day, this year I had a poem published in the  in the aptly named local newspaper Reading Today and I’ll keep writing until the pen drops from my hand.

Writing Poems

When was I not writing poems Mum?

Tell me I can’t remember.

First printed when I was 12,

a poem I forgot.

I think in rythym and in verse,

pictures in my mind.

Strange associations come together

forming complete stanzas.

As long as I have my marbles,

even when they roll away,

words will weave together,

flow like glitter glue.
